PETERSEN MEDIA- In action on a pair of occasions over the weekend, Shane Hopkins would overcome a tough night in Tulare, CA that saw him get upside down in his heat race and come back to finish eighth at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night.
“Petaluma definitely went a lot better than Tulare went, but it was pretty cool to make my first laps at the Thunderbowl,” Shane Hopkins said.
Saturday night in Petaluma, CA, Hopkins would kick his night off by timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 machine in ninth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Racing his way to a second place finish in his heat race, the Cameron Park, CA driver would find himself in the sixth starting spot when the feature event line up was posted. Rolling out for the 30-lap feature event, Hopkins and the rest of the field would be greeted with a heavy and hooked up Petaluma Gumbo, which always creates exciting racing.
Acclimating to the challenging surface, Hopkins would lay down some nice laps that saw him keep the LRB Ent./ADCO Driveline/C&H Veteran Enterprises machine inside the Top-10 as he raced with some guys with countless laps around the speedway.
Despite some tense moments on the rough and tumble surface, Hopkins would do a great job of putting a tough Friday night behind him as he would take the checkered flag in the eighth position on Saturday night.
“Friday night we got upside down in our heat race, and I really have to thank everyone who came over and helped get the car back together for the ‘C’ Main,” Hopkins said. “I was happy we were able to get to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday and salvage our weekend with a good run.”
