Shane Hopkins Records Fifth Top-10 Of Season

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though he left the track Saturday night with a bit of a sour taste in his mouth, Shane Hopkins was able to get over the disappointment of a late flat tire and look at the big picture as he took the checkered flag in ninth.

“We had a really good racecar, and it was awesome to run in the Top-Three most of the race until we had a flat tire late in the race,” Shane Hopkins said. “A late yellow wasn’t what we needed but I think we learned some things on Saturday night and it was pretty cool to be that fast.”

The Cameron Park, CA pilot got his Saturday night started off by timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 machine in 12th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Hopkins would take advantage of the prime real estate as he would get out front and set sail from the field. Picking up the win, the Rookie of the Year candidate would move into the redraw where the four pill placed him in the second row to start the 25-lap feature event.

When the feature event came to life following a quick re work of the Placerville Speedway, Hopkins would comfortably run inside the top-five as he battled with the likes of Andy Forsberg and Tony Gualda.

Running some impressive laps with a group of talented drivers, traffic would make things interesting for Hopkins. Challenging Forbserg for second at times, Hopkins would actually get around the former track champion to take over the second position only to see the favor returned to him.

Running in third late in the race, Hopkins looked to be well on his way to a career best finish as he accepted the white flag in the show position. Coming to take the checkered, the yellow would fly and this would prove to be detrimental to Hopkins’ finish.

Under yellow, Hopkins left rear tire would go completely flat after enduring contact while racing. Opting to stay on the track, Hopkins would have his hands full during the impending green-white-checkered finish as he would slip back a few positions and officially close his night out in the ninth spot.

“We really didn’t need that last yellow, but it was out of our control,” Hopkins noted. “It was a great night overall, but I really wanted to finish on the podium. We can’t dwell on it too long as he have to refresh and do it all over again this week. Thanks to Vern, and everyone on this team who lends a hand and supports us.”

Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
