PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off his first go at the Trophy Cup, Shane Hopkins and his team made the trip to Marysville Raceway for the Spooktacular on Saturday night and had quite the night that ended with a second place finish.
“I have to thank my dad, Matt, and Jeremy for all of their help on Saturday night,” Shane Hopkins said. “We had a really good night going, and I just made the wrong call for the feature and Andy Forsberg got by us late.”
Making only his second start at Marysville Raceway, Hopkins got off to a very nice start as he timed the High Sierra Industries/ARP/ADCO backed No. 21 machine in 4thquickest amongst the 29 drivers checked in for the annual event.
Overcoming an issue early in his heat race, Hopkins would pick up a fourth place finish which would prove good enough to move him into the all important redraw. As luck would have it, the Placerville, CA driver would pull the two pill and line up on the front row to start the 25-lap feature event.
Lining up alongside Blake Carrick, Hopkins would take advantage of a Carrick wheelie, and take the early lead before a slew of stoppages hindered his pace.
Enduring countless restarts, Hopkins continued to lead the way but Andy Forsberg was picking up positions and setting Hopkins up for a battle up front. Keeping the veteran at bay for 14 laps, Forsberg would find his way around Hopkins on the 15thlap though Hopkins would not go away quietly.
Hanging with the veteran, Hopkins would try to get back into the lead but would come up short as he would take the checkered flag with a second place finish.
“I just got us a little too tight and it hurt us,” Hopkins said. “We were pretty good, but being a little tight, and all the restarts just didn’t equate for us. Bummed to come up short, but still a very good night for our race team.”
Hopkins would like to thank High Sierra Industries, ARP, ADCO, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Brian Sperry Racing, Capitol ACE Hardware, El Dorado Disposal, Gary Morgan Graphics, Jake Morgan Racing, Johnson Motorsports, MD Builders, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Image Salon and Spa, PT Shocks, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kyle Johnson Racing, and Petersen Media for their support in 2019.

ON TAP- Hopkins is looking for a car to run on Friday night at Stockton Dirt Track, and is currently scheduled to be in his machine on Saturday night for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour finale.
