PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night, Shane Hopkins turned in a very strong performance at the Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds as he picked up a third-place finish during the Adobe Cup.
“We had some engine troubles a week ago at Placerville Speedway, and on Saturday those were behind us and we really had a strong night,” Shane Hopkins said. “It was one of those nights where it really has me excited for the Tiner race this Saturday back in Placerville, CA.”
Running the dual heat format at the Adobe Cup, Hopkins would draw in the sweet spot that saw him line up in the second row of both is races. Advancing from fourth to second in his first heat, Hopkins would advance to second from third in his second heat and qualify for the Top-8 qualifying session.
Moving into the two-lap qualifying session, Hopkins would time the High Sierra Industries/C&H Motor Parts/ARP backed No. 21 entry in sixth quickest, which lined him up in the third row of the feature event.
From his third row starting position, Hopkins would do a nice job or working his way through the Top-5. Battling with the likes of DJ Freitas and Jake Haulot, Hopkins would soon find himself in the third position on the famed ‘Gumbo’ surface.
Battling with Freitas late for the second position, Hopkins would end up picking up a third place finish and taking the final spot on the podium.
“For some reason, the Adobe Cup is a race that I have always had pretty good success at,” Hopkins said. “It was a fun night of racing, and great to get up on the podium. I have to give a big shoutout to my grandpa for lending us a truck to tow our trailer to the track as all of our trucks are servicing fire fighters at this time.”
