PETERSEN MEDIA- With Placerville Speedway dark on Saturday night, Shane Hopkins to make the trip to Petaluma Speedway for a night of racing action where he would flirt with his second win of the season before coming home with a third place finish.
“Saturday night was a good one for our team,” Shane Hopkins said. “It gave Jeremy Dubois and I another night together, and I really like how we are clicking and the feel we have right now.”
Making the rare cameo at the bay area facility, Hopkins started the night off by timing the High Sierra Industries/ARP/ADCO backed No. 21 machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials.
Running fourth in his heat race, the Placerville, CA driver would find himself on the front row of the 25-lap feature event alongside veteran ace, Sean Becker. When the green flag was displayed, Hopkins was shot out of a cannon and jumped out to the early lead as he kept the likes of Sean Becker and Colby Johnson at bay.
Looking strong out front, Hopkins would soon find the tail end of the field as traffic would become a factor near the race’s halfway point.
Leading the opening 15-laps, traffic would get the better of Hopkins on the 16thcircuit and Becker would race by and take over the top spot. Running in second now, Hopkins would turn into the hunter as he chased after Becker.
With the race coming to a close, Hopkins would get a run on the final circuit and take a shot at the top spot but it would end up costing him a position as he came home with a third place finish.
While Placerville Speedway was dark Saturday, the lights were on Wednesday night for the opening round of King of the West Speedweek, and Hopkins opted to test his 360ci engine against the 410’s.
Coming up short in his heat race, Hopkins would hang on to the final transfer out of the ‘B’ and successfully put his machine in the 30-lap feature event. When the wild feature wrapped up, Hopkins closed his night out with a 17thplace finish.
“Fun week of racing, and really fun night at Petaluma Speedway,” Hopkins noted. “Frustrated that I couldn’t do a better job in traffic, but pleased with everything else. Thanks to all the people who make this possible.”
Hopkins would like to thank High Sierra Industries, ARP, ADCO, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Brian Sperry Racing, Capitol ACE Hardware, El Dorado Disposal, Gary Morgan Graphics, Jake Morgan Racing, Johnson Motorsports, MD Builders, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Image Salon and Spa, PT Shocks, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Kyle Johnson Racing, and Petersen Media for their support in 2019.
