PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after picking up his career best finish in a winged sprint car, Kyler Shaw backed it up by scoring his first ever Top-10 finish at the Placerville Speedway by way of his 10th place run on Saturday night.
“We have been so close to cracking the Top-10 at Placerville all year long, it feels pretty good to finally break through and get it,” Shaw said. “We had a great car all night and made some moves before the rubber got laid down but yellow flags negated them.”
With 22 cars on hand on Saturday night, Shaw timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 13th fastest, just narrowly missing out on the heat race inversion.
Scoring a fifth place finish in his heat, Shaw avoided the night’s B Main event, and went directly to the feature event, where he lined up in the sixth row.
On a very slick track that didn’t provide much grip early, Shaw quickly jumped into the Top-10 and the track was starting to take rubber, and build up a ‘blue groove’.
Before it got too bad, Shaw was on the move and worked his way into the eighth spot with a very nice slide job, only to see the yellow flag waive, and negate his pass.
Restarting in the 10th spot, the rubber had become dominant on the track, and drivers got into the groove, and stayed put, as any mistake would cost them positions.
Being mindful of his tires, Shaw carefully hit his marks lap after lap, as he held on to his 10th place position on the track, and picked up his first Top-10 at the Placerville Speedway of the 2014 season.
“It was a fun track the first seven or eight laps,” Shaw said. “You could do some sliding around, and passing, and we made a nice pass to get up to eighth, but the yellow came out, and after that the rubber was pretty much down. I can’t thank everyone who helps us on our car for continuing to give me a good car, and luckily the driver did his part.”
