PETERSEN MEDIA- Having some tough luck during the Friday night feature event at the Trophy Cup, Sheldon Haudenschild would bounce back and have a strong showing during the Saturday night feature event that netted him sixth overall in Trophy Cup points.
“Trophy Cup was great with the entire Roth Motorsports team,” Sheldon Haudenschild said. “It is a first class operation and it really made it easy to get in and drive.”
After a heat race wreck relegated him to the B main, where he finished 16th, during the day portion of the Day/Night double header on Friday, Haudenschild was strong during the nigh race.
Timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83 machine in seventh fastest in time trials, the Wooster, OH pilot picked up a third place finish in heat race action.
Just missing out on a berth into the feature event, Haudenschild would make a stop in the B Main, where he would race his way to a second place finish, and find himself on the front row of the 30-lap feature by way of his Trophy Cup points.
When the green flag waived, Haudenschild jumped out to the early lead as he took a liking to the beefy Thunderbowl cushion that had built up on both ends of the track. Turning in strong laps, Haudenschild was able to distance himself from Dusty Zomer and Bud Kaeding who chased after him.
The 11th lap would be detrimental for the leader as a car would spin in front of him, and as he tried to avoid him he would get into the wall, and bring his machine to a stop in the infield ending his night.
Credited with a 16th place finish, Haudenschild sat 23rd in Trophy Cup points heading in Saturday heat races, still in great shape to lock into the 50-lap A main,
Lining up fifth in the fifth heat race, Haudenschild would work his way forward, and finish in the third spot as he earned valuable points and sat 17th overall in points and was locked into the fourth row of the feature event.
Taking to the slicked off Thunderbowl Raceway for the 50-lap affair, Haudenschild would get off to a nice start as he worked his way up to the fourth spot by the time the race’s first caution flew on the eighth lap.
When two cars in front of him having issues before the race went back green, Haudenschild would find himself running in the second spot as he chased after Dusty Zomer.
Getting back into the race lead, Haudenschild was in cruse control as he again clicked off strong laps, just as he did the night before. Running strong through traffic, Haudenschild would feel pressure from Terry McCarl during the race’s closing laps.
With nine-to-go, McCarl was able to get the race lead, but Haudenschild did not let him get away. With a little rubber on the track, Haudenschild was unable to get back by McCarl and closed his weekend out with a second place finish in the race, and a sixth place finish in overall points.
“I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth, as well as everyone at Roth Motorsports for making this weekend possible,” Haudenschild added. “I also have to thank Bonzai for making the trip out with me, because that also made me feel really comfortable early in the weekend.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2015.
