PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the United States after a couple weeks of racing in Australia, Kerry Madsen picked up a sixth place finish during the Wildcat Shootout in Tucson, AZ as the World of Outlaws invaded Arizona and Nevada last week.
Taking to the USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ on Saturday night, Madsen timed the Keneric Racing/American Racing No. 29 machine in fourth fastest before finishing seventh in his heat race.
Forced to run in the night’s B Main event, Madsen would finish third on the extremely slick racing surface, and earn a transfer into the 30-lap feature event.
Lining up ninth in the feature event, ‘The Mad Man’ would so some moving and shaking early in the feature event as he worked into the seventh spot as rubber quickly began going down on the speedway.
Once in seventh Madsen was able to hit his marks, and take advantage of a competitors bobble late in the race to take over the sixth spot, where he would go on to finish.
“It was a pretty good finish for us with how the track was, and where we started,” Madsen said. “We really struggled in our heat race, and that put us a little behind.”
Wednesday and Thursday night the team was in action at the Las Vegas Dirt Track.
Wednesday night saw Madsen time in machine in fifth fastest, and finish third in his heat race to transfer him into the feature event.
Lining up ninth in the feature event, Madsen was battling inside the Top-10 when he ran over some debris and cut down a right rear tire just as the race passed the halfway point.
With no guaranteed time in the work area per World of Outlaws rules, Madsen was unable to make the call, but the caution flew a lap later, and he was allowed to restart, a lap down, and salvage a 16th place finish.
Thursday night in Sin City, Madsen would time in second fastest before putting together a very strong heat race that saw him storm to the win.
Finishing seventh in the dash, Madsen would line up in the fourth row for the feature event.
Unable to get the forward drive he was looking for, Madsen hung around the eighth spot during much of the feature as he battled with Shane Stewart, and his brother, Ian, late in the race. As the race drew to a close, Madsen would cross the stripe with an eighth place finish.
“We had a decent week, overall,” Madsen added. “The flat tire on Wednesday night killed us, and we just missed it on Thursday night in the feature. It was great to have Dan Ricehouse from American Racing Wheels with us, and we will head to California for a few weeks and see if we can find some more success out there. Huge thanks to the Gavranich’s and our sponsors for their continued support.”
