Soares 16th at HK Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with the King of the West Series over the weekend, Jarrett Soares was happy with how parts of his night went as he finished 16th during the 5th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic.

“I was finally able to lay down some good laps during time trials, and I put us in position to succeed the rest of the night,” Soares said. “Unfortunately, I made some mistakes in the heat race and we had to go to the B.”

With 29 cars on hand for the ever-popular HK Classic, Soares got his night off to a great start as he timed his American Tool & Mfg/Performance Powder Coating/A.R.T. No. 12 machine in ninth fastest.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race on an extremely slick Ocean Speedway surface, Soares would have his hands full as he gave up a few positions and slipped back to finish fifth, and be forced into the night’s 12-lap Last Chance Showdown.

Leading the field to green for the LCS, Soares would jump into the lead as he tip-toed around the deteriorating Ocean Speedway. In what was a non-stop race, Soares would pick up the win and get his time back for the 30-lap feature event.

Finding his Bailey Brothers Racing Engines/Simpson Race Products/McMahan Motorsports No. 12 machine in seventh row for the feature event, Soares would hang inside the Top-15 during much of the race.

A reworked surface saw lightening fast lap times during the first half of the race, and as cautions flew during the final laps, restarts would not work out for the Discovery Bay, CA driver as he would close his night out with a 16th place finish.

“Our goal each night is to make it into the feature event, and with a pretty strong field of cars on hand, we were happy with what we were able to do,” Soares said. “It was nice to qualify well, and hopefully we can build off of that moving forward.”

Jarrett and his Soares Motorsports team would like to thank American Tool & Mfg., Performance Powder Coating, A.R.T., Bailey Brothers Racing Engines, Simpson Race Products, McMahan Motorsports, CSI Shocks, and Brad Scadden Designs for their support.

ON TAP: Soares will follow the KWS series to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
