PETERSEN MEDIA- A tough start to the season hasn’t quite deterred Jarrett Soares. Getting off to a great start on Saturday night, Soares would race his way into the Peter Murphy Classic feature at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway.
“It has been a rough start to the season for me, but it felt really good to put it in the show Saturday night and stay out of the semi,” Soares said. “Brian Sperry and my dad give me a good car nightly, and I was glad I held up my end of the bargain and got the night started off well.”
With 39 cars on hand for the King of the West portion of the Peter Murphy Classic, Soares would time the American Tool & Mfg/C&H Veteran Enterprises/Performance Powder Coating entry in eighth fastest in his qualifying flight.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Discovery Bay, CA driver would battle hard with Rico Abreu and Tanner Thorson before falling back to the fourth spot. With the finish, Soares would transfer directly into Saturday night’s 30-lap Peter Murphy Classic feature event.
As the night went on the track continued to slick off, and eventually took rubber during the USAC feature event. During KWS driver introductions, crews went to work on the track and set up turned into a guessing game.
With the surface fooling many of the teams, it did not slick back up in the feature event and caused for wheel stands and tight racecars. Soares and company were one of those teams. Hanging on for dear life amid two monster bikes in the early portion of the feature event, Soares would stay the course and lay down better laps and race moved along.
When the fast paced 30-lapper came to a close, Soares would finish in the 17th spot.
“The track stayed a little more heavy than we thought, and I had two huge bikes in the first few laps,” Soares said. “Once we got some laps in and I calmed down, I laid down some good laps and built up some much needed confidence.”
Jarrett and his Soares Motorsports team would like to thank American Tool & Mfg., C&H Veteran Enterprises, Performance Powder Coating, Addicted Industries Clothing, A.R.T., Bailey Brothers Racing Engines, Dickens Cider, and Walker Performance Filtration for their support.
ON TAP: As of now, Soares is scheduled to take the weekend off, but is hoping his team came make it to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night.
