Speedweek Champ! Austin Torgerson Claims CA Speedweek Winged Super 600 Title

PETERSEN MEDIA- During the grueling four race CA Speedweek, Austin Torgerson didn’t enjoy any trips to victory lane, but the Glendale, AZ driver was in the mix every night and was able to win the war, as he claimed the Speedweek Championship in the Winged Super 600 Division.

Running both the Winged and Non-Winged portions of CA Speedweek, Torgerson’s model on consistency had him in position to win both Championships heading into Saturday’s finale. All week long the No. 88 car was super strong.

In four winged races, Torgerson was able to ultimately capture the Speedweek title on the strength of four Top-5 finishes, including three podium runs.

Kicking the action off back on July 2nd in Lemoore, CA, Torgerson’s winged action came to life with a third quick effort in qualifying time trials. Moving into the feature event, Torgerson got the week off to a very strong start as he went on to tally a second-place finish.

Moving to Visalia, CA on Wednesday night, Torgerson got off to a bit of a tricky start as he timed in 12th fastest in time trials.

Winning his heat race, he found himself in the sixth starting position of the feature event. Continuing to showcase a ton of speed, he had his elbows up as he sliced and diced his way forward. Recording a third-place finish, Torgerson sat atop the point standings as the series headed north to Stockton, CA.

Missing the heat race inversion on Friday night at Delta Speedway, Torgerson never faltered as a fourth place run in heat race action put him 12th on the starting grid for the 30-lapper.

Torgerson put on a show in Friday’s feature. As he forged his way through the field. Bouncing back from a tough start to the night, Torgerson showed his championship resolve as he bounced back with a third-place finish.

Championship Saturday saw Torgerson get off to a quick start as he earned quick time honors, but then ran fifth in his heat race.

Moving into the feature he rolled off the starting grid from 11th, as he needed to move forward to secure the title. Though he did work his way forward, Torgerson couldn’t get back on the podium, however his fifth-place finish was just what ne needed to claim the title.

Finishing second in non-winged action, Torgerson was nearly as good as he scored a third place finish at Lemoore, a fourth place finish in Visalia, and sixth and ninth place finishes in Stockton, CA.
