PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending his week putting his Steven Tiner Racing No. 94 machine back together after a hard crash during the Peter Murphy Classic, Steven Tiner made the trip up to the Placerville Speedway for one final time before this weekend’s lucrative Mark Forni Classic and scored a fifth place finish.
“We had a really good car on Saturday night, but we just had a little trouble picking up positions at times,” Steven Tiner said. “I think we had a top-three car but we will take what we learned and hopefully be a few spots better this Saturday night.”
Timing his Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious No. 94 machine in fifth fastest, the Visalia, CA resident would finish fourth in his heat race.
By way of his qualifying effort, Tiner would earn a berth in the nightly redraw, and the seven-pill would line him up in the fourth row of the 25-lap A main event. Working into the fifth spot on a very fast Placerville Speedway during the opening laps of the race, Tiner would battle with Jake Morgan for a few laps.
As the track slowly widened out, Tiner would track down third and fourth running Mike Benson and Cory Eliason, and as they battled side by side Tiner had no way around them as he continued to hold down the fifth spot.
Unable to make a bid for the fourth spot late in the race, Tiner would end his Saturday night with his 12th Top-Five finish of the season.
“We were all over third and fourth late in the race, but as they raced each other hard, there was no way around them and we ended up fourth,” Tiner said. “I was happy with the speed we had, and look forward to the Forni race this Saturday night.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Elma Lanes, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-20, Wins-2, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-15
ON TAP: Tiner will be back in action on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway for the $10K to win Mark Forni Classic.
