PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to be a Saturday night mainstay at Placerville Speedway, Steven Tiner had a nice run this past week that saw him take the checkered flag with a fifth place finish.

“We got to fourth in the feature, and then I just had to get off the bottom and see if I could make something happen,” Tiner said. “We weren’t terrible up top but the bottom was better and we did end up losing a spot.”

All in all 28 cars checked in at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to attack the famous red clay filled facility. Timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious machine in sixth fastest in qualifying time trials.

From the second row of his heat race, Tiner was impressive on the tricky surface as he was able to pick up a couple of positions and win the race going away. By way of his win, Tiner made himself redraw eligible where the seven pill put him in the fourth row for the 25-lap ‘A’ Main event.

With the RMI team working over the surface prior to the feature event, the bottom groove would be noticeably better in the opening laps of the feature as the field fought hard for real estate.

Working up into the fourth spot as the race moved along making some patient moves, Tiner would opt to try something when the race’s final caution flew on the 19th lap.

Giving up the fourth spot, Tiner would get off the bottom of the speedway and see what he could do on the cushion during the final six laps. With the bottom still fast, Tiner was unable to make headway, but was still able to keep pace with the rest of the field.

In the end, he would lose one spot and fall back to fifth at the finish line.

“I knew we weren’t going to win the race if I stayed low with everyone, so I had to give it a shot,” Tiner said. “I went up and good speed, but the bottom was too good.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
