Stornetta Second During Calistoga Debut

PETERSEN MEDIA- Joe Stornetta took on the Wingless Series Presented by Joe Hunt Magnetos on Saturday night as the series made their debut at the Calistoga Speedway. After a hard fought battle with Colton Slack and Terry Schank, Stornetta would cross the stripe with a second place finish.

“That was a race I wanted very badly,” Stornetta said. “Being from nearby, I have always wanted to race at Calistoga Speedway, and we had a blast on Sunday night.”

With 18 cars checked in for the second series stop of the 2015 season, the current point leader, Stornetta, would timed his machine in fifth fastest in qualifying, before thrilling the crowd with a heat race win.

Lining up in the third row of the feature event, Stornetta would jump into the fourth position as he chased after third running, Geoff Ensign. With Ensign retiring on the fourth lap, Stornetta would take over the third spot as he then focused on Colton Slack, as the race leader, Terry Schank, had a sizeable lead.

By the 10th lap, Stornetta had caught Slack, and was all over him for the second spot, as the duo had caught the leader in heavy lapped traffic. With an opening on the bottom of turns three and four on the 12th lap Stornetta looked to make a move on Slack, but contact would ensue, and Stornetta would spin his machine out, but was able to race away, and still run in the third position.

Two laps later, Stornetta was once again in a three car battle for the lead, and move into the second spot on the on the 15th lap before the caution flew on 16th circuit.

With a little bit of suspension damage to his machine, Stornetta could not get the restart he was looking for, and Slack was able to get away, as Stornetta crossed the stripe in the second spot, to much of the crowd’s pleasure.

“We ended up breaking a right-rear shock, and it made it tough towards the end of the race,’ he added. “Huge thanks to everyone for all of the support and the help on this deal, and  I am really looking forward to getting back to Calistoga later this Summer.”

Joe Stornetta would like to thank JPS Trucking, The Geide Family, OK Tire Store, iWear Motorsports, Parmeter General Engineering Service, X Winery, Bergin Glass, LJ’s Speed & Machine Shop, Rick Lawley Trucking, Black Hawk Body Shop, and The Holman Family for their support.
