Stornetta Sixth During Pit Stop USA Sprint Car Shootout Event

PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing aboard both the Lathrop Motorsports No. 9n as well as the Joe Stornetta Racing No. 6 machine on Saturday night, Joe Stornetta would turn in his best winged sprint car effort of the season by way of his sixth place finish.

“We had some more bad luck with the wingless car, but I was really happy with how we did in the winged car,” Joe Stornetta said.

Having fuel issues and failing to get a qualifying time in the winged division, Stornetta would have his struggles during group qualifying in the non-winged division as he timed in eighth fastest.

Starting last in his winged heat race, the Napa, CA driver fought some internal issues with the car, but was able to get some good laps in as he finished in the fifth position.

Picking up a second place finish in the non-winged heat race, Stornetta would find his Geide Family/OK  Tire Store/iWear Motorsports backed No. 6 machine in the second row for the feature event. As the race went green, Stornetta settled into the third spot during the opening circuits of the race until something under the hood went south.

Heading down the front stretch, Stornetta’s machine would lose power and shut off, and Stornetta would see his night come to a close in the non-winged division.

Lining the Lathrop Motorsports No. 9n machine up in the fifth row of the winged 360ci feature event, Stornetta continue to run good laps as he worked his way forward. Focusing on hitting his marks, Stornetta would work his way up to a sixth place finish when the checkered flag flew on the event.

“As the night went on, we continued to get the winged car better, and better,” Stornetta added. “By the feature event, I was really pleased with the changes we made, and it was nice to have some really good speed in the car after struggling a little bit over the last few weeks.”

Joe Stornetta would like to thank JPS Trucking, The Geide Family, OK Tire Store, iWear Motorsports, Parmeter General Engineering Service, X Winery, Bergin Glass, LJ’s Speed & Machine Shop, Rick Lawley Trucking, Black Hawk Body Shop, and The Holman Family for their support.

ON TAP: Stornetta will most likely be off this week, before returning to action on August 8th for the 50-lap Wingless Series Presented by Joe Hunt Magnetos Soares Classic at the Petaluma Speedway.
