PETERSEN MEDIA- Debuting at the Calistoga Speedway earlier this year with the Wingless Series Presented by Joe Hunt Magnetos, Joe Stornetta was able to live out another childhood dream over the Labor Day Weekend as he teamed with Thomas Family Racing to compete in the Louie Vermeil Classic with the USAC/CRA Series.

“I cant thank Shawn Thomas and his team enough for the opportunity to run the Louie Vermeil Classic,” Stornetta said. “We had some positives during both nights, and I am looking forward to hopefully running with the team again on Thursday night.”

Kicking off the ‘Louie’ on Saturday night, ‘The Milk Man’ would time in ninth fastest before making a late race pass in his heat race to secure the fourth and final transfer spot into the night’s 30-lap A Main event.

As the race came to life, the Santa Rosa, CA driver had a solid run going as he battled inside the Top-10 for much of the race. Looking to hang on to a strong finish, Stornetta’s machine developed a bad vibration, and Stornetta opted to use caution and pulled his machine into the work area in hopes of racing another day.

Rectifying the issue, Stornetta and company would be back in action for the Louie Vermeil Classic Finale on Sunday night as he would time in 14th fastest on this night.

Running third in his heat race, Stornetta would finish third in his heat race and grid the field from the seventh row for the 30-lap finale. Getting off to a very strong start, Stornetta would get up into the eighth spot as he battled with the likes of Richard Vander Weerd, Mike Spencer and Brody Roa, a who’s who of the USAC?/CRA Series.

Flirting with the Top-Five during the race’s closing stages, Stornetta would begin to fight a suspension issue and would again be forced to pull into the pit area early as his night came to a close on lap 25.

“It was unfortunate to have a little bad luck, but I was really happy with how things went overall,” Stornetta added. “Again, I really can’t thank the entire Thomas Family enough for this opportunity.”

Joe Stornetta would like to thank JPS Trucking, The Geide Family, OK Tire Store, iWear Motorsports, Parmeter General Engineering Service, X Winery, Bergin Glass, LJ’s Speed & Machine Shop, Rick Lawley Trucking, Black Hawk Body Shop, and The Holman Family for their support.

ON TAP: Stornetta is scheduled to be at the Outlaw Kart Showcase on Tuesday night,  back in the Thomas Family Racing machine on Thursday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, and back in the Lathrop No. 9n on Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-15, Wins-2, Top-5’s-4, Top-10’s-7
