PETERSEN MEDIA: Jumping in the Wright Motorsports No. 99 machine to jumpstart his 2016 season, Steven Tiner would finish eighth on Friday night before suffering an engine issues while battling for the lead on Saturday night.
“I really have to thank the Wright family for giving me the opportunity to race over the weekend,” Steven Tiner said. “We had some brake issues on Friday night, but Saturday night we were really strong until our issues.”
Saturday night, Tiner came out strong as he timed the Wright Process Systems No. 99 machine in fastest in qualifying before using a good start to pick up the win during his heat race.
Lining up sixth in the feature event by way of his Dash finish, the Visalia, CA driver quickly worked his way forward into the third spot as he chased after the lead duo of Rico Abreu and Andy Forsberg.
Using a mid race restart to get by Abreu and overtake the second position, Tiner worked the Stockton Dirt Track to perfection as he reeled in Forsberg, who was very strong in clean air.
On lap 22, Tiner would slide up in front of Forsberg to battle for the lead in turns three and four, but Forsberg would counter his move and Tiner would remain in the second spot.
As the duo raced down the front stretch and into turns one and two, something went south under the hood of Tiner’s machine and he slowed and pulled into the infield and brought his night to an end.
Friday night, Tiner timed the Wright Motorsports entry in 22nd fastest as they fought brake issues early in the night.
Working his way up to fourth in his heat race, Tiner would grid the field from the 13th starting spot. On a racy Stockton Dirt Track, Tiner would again battle brake issues though he was able to work his way forward.
Battling for position inside the Top-10, Tiner would pick up an eighth place finish during his first race of the season.
“It was a good start to my year, and we figured some stuff out that I think will help Shawn (Wright) out when he gets back in the car,” Tiner added. “Again, I really want to thank everyone that helped out this weekend and made it possible.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Elma Lanes, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1
