Tanner Carrick 5th at Mac Tiner Tribute

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Placerville Speedway two weeks removed from his first career win at the ¼ mile bullring, Tanner Carrick would pick up a fifth-place finish during Saturday’s Mac Tiner Tribute to close the sprint car season out at the speedway.

“It was a pretty good night for our team,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had a really fast car, but I made a mistake in turns one and two that really set us back. Luckily, the guys had a really good car underneath me and I was able to fight back and finish with a Top-5.”

Timing in second quickest in his qualifying group, Carrick would find himself on the pole of his heat race.

With 58 cars checked into the pit area on this night, heat races were monumental to get into the 30-lap feature event. From his front row starting position, the Lincoln, CA driver was able to pick up the win and garner a spot in both the feature event, and more importantly the redraw.

Pulling the three, Carrick would roll off of the starting grid from the third starting position, right on younger brother Blakes rear bumper.

When the race went green, Carrick would run in the third spot as the first three laps of the race were interrupted by a pair of red flags.

A lap three restart set the stage for an 18-lap green flag run that saw Carrick continue to run in third and put the pressure on his brother.

Continuing to run in third, Carrick would work the Placerville Speedway cushion as he kept his teammate and brother in his cross hairs. On the 20th lap, the cushion would actually bite Carrick as he would hop over it in turns one and two and he would fall back to sixth.

Back in sixth, Carrick would use a late restart to move back into the Top-5 with just three laps to go in the race, as he took the checkered flag with a fifth place finish.

“Shane (Golobic) and Blake were both really good out front, but my mistake with 10-to-go took us out of any shot we had to battle for the win,” Carrick said. “I am really excited to get to Hanford this weekend and run with the 410 for two nights.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
