PETERSEN MEDIA: Picking up his first sprint car win of the 2024 season just two weeks ago at Marysville Raceway, Tanner Carrick returned to the track this past Saturday night, and continued his strong start to the season as he tallied a second place finish.
“We had good speed again on Saturday night, but we didn’t have any luck with the redraw and track position was pretty important on Saturday,” Tanner Carrick said.
22 cars made the call on Saturday night as the track hosted its first points paying event of the 2024 season. Getting off toa great start, Carrick timed in well as he turned in the second fastest lap of the night aboard the CVC/Cemex/D.R. Horton backed No. 83T mount.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver worked his way to a third place finish which put him in the nightly redraw based on his qualifying efforts.
Pulling the five pill in the redraw, Carrick lined up in the third row for the 25-lap feature event. On a very tracky track, the leaders would spend much of the race battling through traffic as they quickly reached the back of the field.
Settling into third when the race came to life, Carrick closed in on second running Andy Forsberg as the lead trio quickly began the lapping process.
While Forsberg had trouble in traffic, Carrick closed in on second but an early yellow took the leaders out of gridlock and put them back in open air and a clean track.
When the racing resumed, another torrid pace by the front runners saw them again get to the back of the pack in a matter of laps, and as Carrick again closed in on Forsberg, the veteran had a misstep in front of Carrick and it moved him into second.
After the caution for Forsberg was cleaned up, Carrick continued to hound Colby Copeland, but Copeland was simply better in traffic. When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Carrick capped his Saturday night off with a second place finish.
“Track position was huge, and Colby was strong in traffic,” Carrick added. “We were good, but he got through it better than us, and we take our second-place finish and look forward to the Mini Gold Cup.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, D.R. Horton, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 4, Wins: 2, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 4
