PETERSEN MEDIA: In a hotly contested feature event at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Tanner Carrick was right in the thick of things as he spent much of the race in the lead. Unfortunately, a close call in lapped traffic pushed him back to the fourth position the closing laps of the 25-lap affair.
“We had really good car speed all night long, and we definitely had a car to win,” Tanner Carrick said. “Traffic did get tricky, as I would get tight, and it bit us as we got squeezed in traffic and it opened the door for Shane Golobic, Justin Sanders, and Colby Copeland to get by as we were all battling amongst each other.”
A total of 25 cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to kick off the track’s 2023 season, and Carrick got his night opened up by timing the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83T entry in fourth fastest overall.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver put on a show as he made a couple of swift moves to race his way to the lead. Going from fourth to first in his heat, Carrick was safely in the 25-lap feature event and was locked into the redraw as well.
Having lady luck on his side, Carrick pulled the one pill and put his entry on the pole of the finale. When the race came to life, Carrick jumped out to the early lead and led the first lap until the caution flag was needed and brought the action to a halt.
When the action resumed, Carrick again got the jump and dazzled the crowd as he was in a hotly contested battle with Shane Golobic, Justin Sanders, and Colby Copeland as they quickly reached the back of the field.
Though he would be scored the leader, things got extremely competitive as traffic came into play as the battle for the lead ramped up.
On the 17th circuit, Golobic would get by Carrick for the top spot, but the Lincoln, CA driver returned the favor on the next lap.
Continuing to run up front, a close call in traffic on the 20th lap forced Carrick to check up and it allowed Golobic, Sanders, and Copeland to get by.
Falling back to fourth, Carrick went on to cap his night off with a Top-Five finish.
“We raced really hard through traffic, we just got stuck in the grease late and it let those guys by unfortunately,” Carrick added. “Overall, pleased with how the night went, and it is good to be back up front at Placerville Speedway.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Hanson Truss, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Simpson Strong-Tie, A&A Concrete Supply, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
