Tanner Carrick Gets First Taste of Knoxville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Amidst a very strong 2021 season in California, Tanner Carrick and his Carrick Motorsports team opted to challenge themselves and see where they stood up during the biggest two weeks of racing of the season; the 360 and 410 Nationals at the famed Knoxville Raceway. With the 360 Nationals in the books, Carrick is happy to have accomplished some of his early goals, though still has a lot he would like to accomplish during the second leg of their trip.

“It was great to finally get to Knoxville Raceway, and give it a go for the first time,” Tanner Carrick said. “We knew coming back here that we would take our lumps and it would be tough, that is just fine. I was super pumped to lock it into the show on my prelim night during the 360 Nationals, and am excited for a couple more shots this week against the best in the world during the 410 Nationals.”

Friday night at Knoxville, Carrick made his long-awaited debut at the famed ½ mile facility as he would time the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83t machine in 28th fastest in time trials of the 48 cars checked in for qualifying action.

Running third in his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver was able to quickly check one of his goals off as he locked into the Friday night feature event. Starting towards the back of the pack for the feature, Carrick would take notes as he learned how to rip around a big ½ mile in dirty air and battle with 23 other drivers.

Admittedly making a few mistakes over the course of the 20-lap ‘A’, Carrick capped his night off with a 19th place finish.

Heading back to the Raceway for Saturday night’s 360 Nationals finale, Carrick would find himself in the ‘C’, as he would need to make up quite a bit of ground to transfer into the ‘B’. Still with the mindset of making laps, and learning the new surface, Carrick would stay within himself as he closed the 360 Nationals out with a 16th place finish in the ‘C’.

Sunday night the scene shifted from 360ci action to 410ci action, as Carrick was geared up to take part in the Capitani Classic.

Taking part in the unofficial open of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals on Sunday evening, Carrick would be on of 65 drivers in attendance looking for a final night of racing before the big show kicks off this week.

Going out in the second flight of time trials, the Lincoln, CA driver would time in 28th fastest before finishing 10th in his heat race.

Moving into the ‘B’, Carrick would appear to be a tick more comfortable with the bigger powerplant in later in the night as he was able to make some nice moves and find some good lines around the speedway. When the checkered flag flew, Carrick capped his weekend off with a 14th place finish.

“I am having a lot of fun, and learning a lot,” Carrick said. “I definitely think coming out here will make us even better when we get home. It is definitely a bonus to get out here and learn and get better for the end of our season. I really have to thank everyone that has made this trip possible so far.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
