Tanner Carrick Hard Charges at Peter Murphy Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: With the 2021 Peter Murphy Classic spanning over two days at two tracks with two different series’, Tanner Carrick would make gains over the course of each night as he charged from the ‘B’ to finish ninth on Friday with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, and again came from the ‘B’ to finish eighth with the Kings of Thunder on Saturday night.

“We made the best of two early holes we dug ourselves into,” Tanner Carrick said. “Unfortunately, both Friday and Saturday night we did not get timed in well and had to work hard. By the end of the night each night we were really good and that allowed us to pass a lot of cars.

Friday night the scene was Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA where Carrick checked in for action with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Timing in ninth in his group during time trials, the Lincoln, CA driver would net a sixth-place finish in his heat race aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed entry.

Forced into the Last Chance Showdown or ‘B’ Main event, Carrick would take care of business as he picked up a second-place finish and made the call into the feature.

Taking the green flag from the 22nd starting position, Carrick would get to work on the slicked off Keller Auto Speedway surface.

Able to work his way through a stout field during a couple of extended green flag runs, the youngster was able to salvage the night and earn PitStopUSA Hard Charger honors with his run up to ninth. In doing so, he also stayed right in the SCCT Championship mix.

Saturday night’s Peter Murphy Classic finale moved to Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA where Carrick would battle the Kings of Thunder 360’s on this night.

Timing in 15th fastest overall on this night, Carrick would be unable to transfer out of the heat race as a seventh-place finish would force him back into a ‘B’ Main. Just as he did on Friday night, Carrick’s second place finish would move him into the feature though he would again have a lot of ground to make up.

Staying poised from the back of the pack on the high banked 1/3 mile oval, Carrick would turn in another masterful charge from the back of pack. Able to again work his way into the Top-10, Carrick closed his weekend out with another strong charge as he finished eighth on this night.

“I have to thank my guys for really keeping at it all night long at both tracks,” Carrick said. “We were really good in both ‘A’s’, we just need to get back to qualifying better.”

Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 23, Wins: 2, Top 5’s: 10, Top 10’s: 16

ON TAP: Carrick will travel to Stockton, CA on Saturday night before making a return to Placerville Speedway on Sunday.
