PETERSEN MEDIA: After getting his 2021 Midget season opened up a couple of weeks ago in Florida, Tanner Carrick returned to California over the weekend to kick off his Sprint Car campaign in Hanford, CA where he would pick up a 10th place finish in the feature event.
“I am kind of bummed I made a mistake while battling up front,” Tanner Carrick said. “We had a good car all night long, and I let a possible podium run get away from us.”
The Lincoln, CA driver got his night opened up by timing in third fastest in his qualifying flight and lining up on the front row of his heat race.
Capitalizing on the prime starting spot, Carrick would race his way to the heat race win aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil machine and punch his ticket into the all-important Kings of Thunder Dash.
Finishing fourth in the Dash, Carrick would take the green flag for the 30-lap feature event in the second row. While the start of the race was a little chaotic with the pole sitter getting out of shape in turns one and two, Carrick was able settle into the third position where he would run in the opening stages of the race.
Slipping back to fourth on the seventh lap, Carrick would battle with the lead pack until a costly mistake at the race’s halfway point saw him fall all the way back to 10th.
With the race drew to a close, the Lincoln, CA driver would accept the checkered flag with a 10th place finish as he now sets his sights on this Saturday’s event in Marysville, CA.
“It is nice to be back racing, and hopefully 2021 will be a little more of a normal season,” he noted. “Marysville was pretty good to us last year, and I am hopeful we can duplicate our success there this weekend.”
