PETERSEN MEDIA: With a few 360ci events at Merced Speedway under his belt, Friday night Tanner Carrick made his first start at the speedway with a 410ci powerplant and was pleased with how things went against the World of Outlaws.
“For it being our first night ever there with a 410ci, I was really happy with how things went aside from getting collected in someone else’s mess in the feature,” Tanner Carrick said.
33 cars checked into the pit area to take part on the first race on Merced Speedway’s revamped surface. Laying down a nice lap in time trials, Carrick timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed machine in 15th fastest.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Lincoln, CA driver was able to get a great jump as he moved into the second position, which was crucial with the World of Outlaws format.
Going on to finish second in his heat, Carrick would advance to the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash where he would finish fourth, and line up in the second row of the 35-lap feature event.
As the night moved along, the track would continue to slick off and widen out, ultimately creating a very exciting racing surface for both the fans in the stands and drivers on the track.
From his fourth starting position, Carrick would hold his own in the Topo-Five as be battled with some of the sports best on the high-banked quarter mile speedway. Just before the race’s halfway point, a driver would lose the handle in front of Carrick and with chaos ensuing, Carrick would spin his machine around in turns three and four and come to a stop.
Carrick would end up finishing 21st.
With rain forcing World of Outlaw officials to cancel Saturday’s scheduled event in Watsonville, CA, Carrick and company made the decision to take their 360ci to Marysville, CA .
With the weather seemingly avoiding the area, Carrick and company made the right choice as Carrick timed his mount in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Running second in his heat race, Carrick would miss out on the redraw, which would prove costly with the track being extremely fast and tough to pass on.
Lining up ninth on the starting grid, Carrick would do what he could on the hammer down surface. Running a patient race, the Lincoln, CA pilot would pick up a couple of positions over the course of the race as he brought his Carrick Motorsports entry home with a sixth-place finish.
“Saturday night we were really fast but missing out on the redraw killed us with how the track was,” Carrick added. “We were able to pick up a few positions, and we are feeling confident about our 360ci season ahead.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Eddie’s Lincoln Auto Body, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
