PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back behind the wheel of a potent Keith Kunz Midget last week, Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team prepared for a grueling Indiana Midget Week by taking part in the opening rounds of POWRi Midget week in Illinois.

“It was good to get back in the midget after running our sprint car last weekend,” Tanner Carrick said. “It is a busy stretch of our season, and hopefully I can get better each night.”

Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team were in action on Wednesday night in Joliet, IL where they attacked the Dirt Oval at Route 66. On a rough surface in heat race action, Carrick would pick up a third place finish aboard the TRD/Curb Records/IPC entry and advance to the feature event.

Lining up in the 12th starting position, the Lincoln, CA driver would settle into an early groove before contact from another competitor on the third lap would cause too much damage to Carrick’s entry and his night would come to a close.

Thursday night saw the team check into the Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairburry, IL where Carrick would draw high and end up in the third row for his heat race. Turning in an impressive performance, the youngster would work his way up to finish second which placed him on the front row for the feature event.

Starting alongside midget standout, Michael Pickens, Carrick would drop into second when the green flag was displayed to the field. Getting a run on Pickens in the race’s early laps, Carrick would admittedly push a little to hard and would lose the handle and loop his machine on the fifth circuit.

Restarting from the tail end of the field, Carrick still was able to show some great speed as he worked his way forward to pick up a 16th place finish aboard the Cemex/CVC backed machine.

Friday night would see the team follow the series to Jacksonville Speedway for one final night of action before returning to the shop to ready for Indiana Midget Week.

A tough heat race draw for the second night in a row would again see Carrick line up deep in the race, as he would grid the field from the sixth starting spot. Doing all he could to pick up valuable heat race points, Carrick would finish in the fifth spot and be forced into the ‘B’ Main.

Lining up on the front row of the semi, Carrick would get the jump and go on to pick up the win and successfully punch his ticket for the feature event.

Lining up in the 18th starting spot, Carrick would go to work on what was an extremely slick Jacksonville Speedway surface. Picking up some positions on the tricky surface, Carrick closed a three-race stretch with the POWRi Series with a 15th place finish.

“There was both some good and some bad that went on last weekend, but I have to thank this Keith Kunz Motorsports team for all they do,” Carrick added. “It’s fun to race a lot and now I am looking forward to Indiana Midget Week.”

Tanner Carrick and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team would like to thank TRD, Curb Records, IPC, Cemex, CVC, and Shell Shock for their support.
