PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending his weekend at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA Tanner Carrick would record a seventh-place finish in 360ci action on Friday night, before picking up a second-place finish with the King of the West Series on Saturday night during the Howard Kaeding Classic.
“Friday night we were good, I just made a few mistakes that hurt our finish,” Carrick said. “Luckily we were good again on Saturday night and I was able to miss some of the wildness and work up to second.”
Checking in at Ocean Speedway to kick the doubleheader weekend off on Friday night, Carrick timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 83t machine in 12th fastest in time trials.
Lining up on the pole of his heat race alongside younger brother, Blake, Tanner would race his way to the win and punch his ticket into the Dash where his eighth-place finish put him in the fourth row for the feature event.
When the race went green, Carrick would spend much of his time battling for position inside the Top-10 as he climbed up into seventh on the ninth lap.
Continuing to look for more, Carrick would actually slip all the way back to 11th with just nine laps left in Friday night’s feature event. Settling back in, and getting back into a rhythm, the Lincoln, CA driver would race his way back up to seventh when the checked flag was displayed to the field.
Saturday night the Carrick Motorsports team would bolt a 410ci power plant into Carrick’s entry as he would do battle with the King of the West Series on this night.
Timing in sixth fastest in time trials, Carrick’s fourth place finish in heat race action would safely transfer him into the $6900-to-win HK Classic feature event but would leave him out of the Dash.
Taking the green flag from the ninth starting position, Carrick would slowly work his way towards the Top-5. On a lap eight restart mass chaos would ensue in front of Carrick and would sneak through the incident and find himself up in fifth when the race resumed.
Following a stoppage on the next restart, Carrick would then go to work as he drove into second at the race’s halfway point as he set his sights on Sean Becker.
While Becker had raced his way to a sizeable lead, traffic in the closing laps would allow Carrick to erase the gap lap after lap.
While he would close in on Becker, Carrick would settle for a second-place finish on this night.
“Saturday night we were really good start to finish, and it is great to get on the podium with the King of the West Series,” Carrick added.
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Kaeding Performance, and Arai for their continued support
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts: 36, Wins: 5, Top 5’s: 20, Top 10’s: 28
