PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking the reigns of his potent Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 machine on Friday night at Ocean Speedway, Tommy Tarlton would again put together another great night as he finished fourth after lining up in the 18th starting spot.
“Paul Baines and my guys gave me another fantastic car,” Tarlton said. “We sealed on right rear up on a late red flag, and that slowed us down at the end, but still a great night for our team.”
Getting off to a rare slow start on Friday night in Watsonville, CA, Tarlton timed the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc/Executive Auto No. 21 machine in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Racing his way to a third place finish during heat race competition, the Easton, CA product would line his famed blacked out entry up in the eighth row for the 30-lap feature event on another racy Ocean Speedway surface.
When the green lights flashed, Tarlton was patient as he picked cars off en route to the front. Slowly grabbing positions, Tarlton would come alive during the back half of the 30-lapper.
Getting by the likes of Kurt Nelson and Jason Chisum late, Tarlton would close in on a torrid battle between the Top-Three as he had taken over the fourth spot.
A red flag late in the race would prove to be bad for Tarlton, as he was not quite the same in the final stages of the race. Unable to battle with the lead trio, Tarlton would fend off some challengers as he closed his night with a fourth place finish.
“Before that final red, I think we had a shot at the guys battling for the lead, but after that I was just kind of hanging on,” Tarlton said. “Thanks to the people who support our race team, and thanks to Paul Baines and the guys for their hard work.”
