PETERSEN MEDIA- A busy weekend in the Midwest saw Kerry Madsen and his team pick up two World of Outlaws podiums, and three Top-10 finishes overall as they competed in three different states in three days.
“Overall it was a great weekend for this team,” Madsen said. “It got a little long between Saturday and Sunday with the delay, but the guys were tough and worked very hard.”
The long weekend started on Friday night in Dennison, IA as Madsen and his Keneric Racing/American Racing team were able to time in second fastest overall and second fastest in their flight with the new World of Outlaws format being unveiled.
Lining his American Racing Custom Wheels backed machine up in the second row of his heat race, “The Mad Man” would finish in the third spot and move into the night’s dash.
Finding himself on the front row of the dash, Madsen would pick up the win, and put his Keneric Racing/American Racing entry on the pole for the 30-lap feature event.
From his prime starting position, Madsen looked very strong out front as he fended off early challenges by Sammy Swindell. Getting in lapped traffic, Madsen would continue to set a strong pace, as Shane Stewart moved into second.
With lapped traffic forcing him to slow his pace in the closing laps, Madsen would lose the top spot with two laps remaining, but would hang on to finish in the second spot.
“We wanted to get the win on Friday really bad, but it was still a great night for our team,’ Madsen said. “I made a mistake in traffic, and it cost us.”
Heading to the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night, Madsen would earn quick time honors in both his flight, as well as the overall award and earn one championship bonus point.
Working his way from his fourth starting position to finish in the second spot in his heat race, Madsen would finish fourth in the dash, putting his American Racing backed No. 29 machine in the second row for the feature event.
A lengthy weather delay would see teams wait until nearly 2am to return to the track. As the feature event went green just after 2am, a thick fog would roll over the speedway, and the race would be called after just 15 laps, with Madsen sitting in third and collecting is second podium in as many nights.
Making the trip up to Brandon, SD to take to the Huset’s Speedway, Madsen would close his weekend out with an eighth place finish on what was an extremely slick and abrasive racing surface.
“I really have to thank everyone involved with this Keneric Racing/American Racing team,” Madsen said. “It was a long, trying weekend, and everyone rallied and we really had a strong weekend. I have to thank Dan Ricehouse and everyone at American Racing for all they do for our team, as well as the Gavranich family back in Australia.”
