PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading into the state of Indiana with the World of Outlaws over the weekend fresh off of his big weekend sweep at the Eldora Speedway, Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing team turned in another solid weekend with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ as they recorded a pair of Top-10s.
“Coming off of two big wins we were looking to hopefully grab another win or two, but we had pretty good speed and made it an okay weekend for our team,” Kerry Madsen said.
Friday night, Madsen joined the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as they made their first ever start at the Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, IN.
Timing the Keneric Health Care/Keneric Racing/American Racing Custom Wheels machine in fifth fastest as all times on this night shattered the tracks existing track record.
Using a big time move during his heat race to pick up the win, ‘The Mad Man’ would move into the all important Dash where his sixth place finish would line him up in the third row for the 30-lap A Main event.
On a surface that stayed slick for much of the night, and never ‘cleaned off’, Madsen would find himself battling with the likes of Bryan Clauson and fellow countryman, Jamie Veal, during the feature event.
Battling for sixth through eight during much of the fast paced feature event, the St Marys, NSW pilot would close his night out with his 24th Top-10 finish of 2016 as he finished in the eighth spot.
Saturday night saw the series head to the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. The racy venue would see Madsen time his Morrison Racing Engines/KPC No. 29 machine in third quickest during qualifying time trials.
Picking up the win during his heat race, Madsen would go onto win the Dash and earn the right to lead the field to green for the 40-lap feature event on the immaculately prepared bullring.
When the race came to life, Madsen would battle with David Gravel for the first lap of the race as the duo raced side-by-side with Gravel getting the better of the two and taking the early lead.
With Gravel getting away, Madsen would find himself in a dogfight with Brady Bacon and Parker Price-Miller as they fought for the second spot, though Madsen would fend off their challenges for the early part of the feature event.
A restart would see Madsen hang with Gravel and actually move around him to briefly take the lead out of turns one and two, but he would continue to run in the second spot.
A lengthy green flag run would see the field get into traffic and the battle within the top five would become extremely entertaining. As Bacon and Price-Miller again closed in on Madsen, Donny Schatz would make it a four car battle as the cars weaved in and out of traffic.
Find himself back in the fifth spot when the group cleared traffic, Madsen would continue to hound Schatz and Price-Miller in the closing laps of the race, but would end up finishing in the fifth spot as the checkered flag flew.
“We had a pretty good car on Saturday night, and had a pretty fun battle going along for much of the race,” Madsen said. “We tried some things in traffic that didn’t work out for us and we ended up losing some track position. We are continuing to be strong consistently and that is thanks to my guys for working hard. We have a great team, with a great support system, and we thank them for all they do.”
