PETERSEN MEDIA- Sean Becker and Vertullo Motorsports kicked the 2021 King of the West Series slate off on Saturday night at the Stockton Dirt Track where ‘The Shark’ would pocket a 10th place finish.
“Saturday night we set ourselves up for a great night,” Sean Becker said. “We timed in really well, and then took advantage of a helpful gift for our heat race starting position and picked up the win to earn a spot in the Dash.”
With a total of 23 410ci Sprint Cars checked in to kick the KWS season off on Saturday night, Becker got off to a nice start as he timed the Morrison Concrete/Starr Property Management backed No. 83V in third fastest in time trials.
Moving into heat race action, Becker would race his mount to the win and obtain enough points to make his way into the Sunny Valley Bacon powered Dash.
Finishing sixth in the Dash, Becker would take the green flag from the outside of the third row in the first KWS feature event of the 2021 season.
Dealing with a very slick surface early in the night, a rework took place making for a fast surface in the 30-lap feature event.
Settling into the fifth spot when the race came to life, Becker would continue to hold the position until the first stoppage of the race came on the 12th lap. The ensuing double file restart would be unking to Becker who would slip back to eighth when the action resumed.
Battling with the likes of Geoff Ensign, Shane Golobic, and the Kaeding brothers, Becker would continue to hold the position until the caution again halted the race.
Things again would not play into Becker’s favor on the restart as he fell back to 10th, and ultimately back to 12thbefore getting his car working the right way and up to 10th when the checkered flag flew.
“Unfortunately, I really struggled in the feature,” Becker said. “I needed to do a better job on double file restarts, and that would give this team a better result. With that being said, the gains we made on this car are very promising and I know better results and wins be coming soon.”
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 1, Top-10’s- 4
ON TAP: Becker now turns his attention to this weekend’s Sprint Car Challenge Tour opener at Placerville Speedway aboard the Monhoff Racing No. 35 entry.
