Third Place Finish Highlights I-5 Classic Weekend for Tim Kaeding and Roth Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the inaugural I-5 Classic at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, CA, Tim Kaeding would record a third-place finish during Friday night’s opener before issues in traffic knocked him out of contention for a second possible on Saturday night.

“Overall, all it was a good weekend for our team,” Tim Kaeding said. “The Roth Motorsports car was really fast both nights, but unfortunately we had some bad luck in traffic while running second on Saturday night.”

Friday night, the curtain rose on the inaugural I-5 Classic. Originally slated to be ran under the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour banner, a last-minute cancellation saw the Kings of Thunder pick the event up and it was ran as scheduled.

Kaeding kicked his weekend off but timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. no. 83 entry in fastest in his qualifying group before running third in his heat race.

Moving into the Dash based on his qualifying and heat race efforts, the San Jose, CA driver would finish fourth, placing him in the second row to start the opening night feature event.

On a fast race surface, Kaeding would settle into third as he chased after Dominic Scelzi, and Shane Golobic. Though the race would have its fair share of stoppages, Kaeding would continue to run third despite the numerous restarts. When the feature event came to a close, Kaeding would bring his machine home with a third-place finish.

Saturday night saw the action return to Kern County Raceway Park, and Kaeding would continue to show a ton of speed. Earning quick time honors again in his qualifying group, Kaeding’s second place run in his heat race moved him into the Dash.

Finishing second to Shane Golobic in the Dash, Kaeding would take the green flag from the front row as he sought after his first win of the 2021 season.

With Golobic getting the jump, Kaeding would hold down the second position as he worked around the racy 1/3 mile oval. Continuing to run second, Kaeding’s night would take a turn on the 10th lap as contact while in heavy traffic would send TK into a spin cycle and force the caution flag to fly.

Going to the back of the pack, Kaeding would work hard to get back up front as he salvaged the night with an 11thplace finish

“Thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth for continuing to give me a great opportunity to start the year,” Kaeding added. “Really looking forward to this weekend and am hopeful we can keep up the speed we have had the last two weekends.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Vahlco Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2021.
