Tim Kaeding Collected in Late Wreck at High Bank Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- Going into the High Bank Nationals at Huset’s Speedway last week with a bit of confidence after a couple of strong runs at the bullring, Tim Kaeding and the Lunstra Motorsports team had a bit of an up down week that saw them get collected in a late wreck while running inside the Top-10.

“In our previous starts at Huset’s Speedway, we had been really fast so we were all confident heading into a big week of racing,” Tim Kaeding said. “We were the hard charger on Wednesday night, but Thursday and Friday we struggled to make speed. Luckily these guys continued to work hard and Saturday we did what we needed to do to make the big show.”

Kicking off a massive four-race swing at Lunstra Motorsports’ home track, Huset’s Speedway, Kaeding opened thing up by timing the Acres Away Ag/First National Bank/Dammer Trucking No. 3 in 31st fastest in time trials.

Needing to make points all week long, Kaeding lined up on the front row of his heat race and needed to win to improve his starting position in the impending ‘B’ Main. Doing just that, Kaeding’s win put him in the third row of the semi with four tickets left into the opening night feature event.

Charging from sixth to second in the ‘B’, Kaeding was locked into the opening night 35-lap feature where he took the green from 22nd.

Being mired in the back of the pack, Kaeding used his experience at the South Dakota facility to his advantage as he sliced and diced through the star studded field. Working his way into the Top-10, TK finished 10th and was the KSE Hard Charger of the night.

Thursday and Friday were not as kind to Kaeding and team as he failed to make either feature. Running 22nd in the Thursday night ‘B’, Kaeding did feel a little more confident after Friday night despite finishing 17th in the semi.

“Friday night I felt like we were on the right track, and I knew we had a good shot race into the feature out of our qualifier on Saturday night,” Kaeding added.

With three transfer spots up for grabs in each qualifier on Saturday, Kaeding did have some work to do as he took the green flag from fifth.

In a very spirited battle for the third and final transfer, Kaeding got the best of it as he rolled the bottom to perfection and locked into the $250,000-to-win feature event.

Lining up 18th on the starting grid, Kaeding was one of the few who was able to move forward on the locked down track following a rain shower that delayed the show earlier in the evening.

Working his way up to 10th during a nonstop 31-lap green flag run to open the race. Kaeding was collected in a tangle on the ensuring restart that relegated him back to 15th, where he went on to finish.

“I am proud of my guys for never giving up and giving us a chance to succeed when it counted on Saturday night,” TK added. “Bummed that our efforts weren’t exactly rewarded with that wreck, but still good to get this Lunstra Motorsports car in the feature.”

The Lunstra Motorsports team would like to thank Acres Away Ag, First National Bank, Dammer Trucking, Beep Motorsports, Clark’s Custom Coatings, Ahrendt Designs, Valley Springs Body Shop, and Walker Performance Filtration
