PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of a strong showing with the Civil War Series during the Memorial Day Weekend, Steven Tiner and his Steven Tiner Racing team made the trip to the Placerville Speedway and Tiner continued his strong 2016 season as he recorded a second place finish.
“We have been really good all year long, and we continued to have good speed on Saturday night,” Tiner said. “The track was a little tough to pass on, and I think if it was a little more slick we would have made things pretty interesting.”
Timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious backed No. 94 machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Elverta, CA native turned Visalia, CA resident would pick up the heat race win and earn a spot in the night’s redraw.
Pulling the five pill, Tiner would line the Fisher Racing Engines/Harvest Supply/Powder Coat-It backed machine up in the third row for the 25-lap feature event on a surface that stayed hooked up despite the high temperatures.
The first five laps of the feature event would be slowed by cautions, but once things settled down, Tiner showed he was one of the fastest cars on the speedway as he worked his way forward.
Getting by Jimmy Trulli and Greg DeCaires, Tiner would spend the middle portion of the race chasing after second running Sean Conde. Getting by Conde on the 18th lap, Tiner would make a late race charge on the race long leader, Mason Moore.
Cutting into Moore’s sizeable lead lap after lap, Tiner would drastically close in on the top spot as lapped traffic became tough. With two laps to go, Moore would fend off Tiner’s final bid for the top spot, and Tiner would settle for the runner up position at the stripe.
“I was happy with how I drove, and how our car felt and am pleased with how we ended up,” he added. “We had a little bit of a fuel stumble develop around the halfway point, and I’m not sure how much it hurt our chances to win. It’s been a nice stretch for us, and we will look to keep at it this weekend.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-9, Wins-2, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-6
ON TAP: Tiner will be back in action on Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA before returning to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night to battle with the Civil War Series.
