PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Antioch Speedway on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Steven Tiner would rally from a late race tangle to still record a Top-10 finish.

“We had a really fast car all night long, but unfortunately we got collected on a double-file restart and had to go to the back,” Tiner said. “At the time we still had plenty of time to come back forward, but as the race went along it got shortened and we were only able to get back up to ninth.”

Timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Fisher Racing Engines powered No. 94 in third fastest in his time trial group, Tiner would go on to win his heat race convincingly and make himself Dash eligible.

Pulling the seven pill for the Dash, Tiner would line up in the fourth row for the six-lap shootout as a fifth place finish would line the Powder Coat-It/SRP/Wilwood backed sprinter up in the third row for the 40-lap feature event.

With the first 10-laps of the race going off with no issues, Tiner would run in the fourth spot as he battled with Willie Croft for track position. The first stoppage would come on lap-10 and the ensuing double file restart would see the Visalia, CA driver lose a few spots as he was shuffled back to the seventh spot.

Working his way back forward, a stoppage on the 18th lap would prove troublesome for Tiner. The initial restart would be negated for a tangle behind him, and the restart after that would see two driver in front of get together and with nowhere to go he would get in on the action and be forced to the tail end of the field.

A red on the 20th lap would force officials to open the track up for crews to add fuel to their cars and it was then deemed the race would be cut to 30-laps.

Using the restart to pick up a couple of positions, more stoppages would slow Tiner’s flow. Getting back into the ninth spot by the 23rd lap, the race would get cut to a 25-lap affair and Tiner would bring his machine home with a ninth place finish.

“I think we have a pretty good finish if we don’t get collected on the restart, or if the race goes the full distance,” Tiner said. “We had a good car, and I thank all my guys for their hard work all night long.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-13, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-6

ON TAP: Tiner will be in action with the SCCT on Saturday night as the series makes their lone visit of the season to Calistoga Speedway.
