PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to action for the first time since Northwest Speedweek at the beginning of the month, Steven Tiner would finish 12th on Friday night at the Keller Auto Speedway before taking a nasty tumble during the Last Chance Showdown on Saturday night with the King of the West Series at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.
“It really was not the weekend we were hoping for,” Steven Tiner said. “We had a decent night on Friday night, and on Saturday night we struggled and then ended our night with some bent up parts.”
A slick Keller Auto Speedway racing surface greeted drivers and teams on Friday night and Tiner would feel the effects of a late qualifying draw as he timed his Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious No. 94 machine in 21st fastest.
Lining up in the last row of his heat race, the Visalia, CA driver was able to find some speed after a bit of track prep, as he forged his way forward and finished in the second position.
Needing to win to earn a spot in the Dash, Tiner would line his Fisher Racing Engines/harvest Supply/Powder Coat-It backed machine up in the ninth row for the 30-lap showdown.
On this night a narrow surface would make passing tough at times. Searching around the slick speedway for grip while in traffic, Tiner would negotiate his way forward and finish 12th to open up his weekend.
Going to battle with the King of the West Series on Saturday night for the Second Annual Peter Murphy Classic, Tiner would again get off to a slow start as he qualified 25th quickest of the 36 cars signed into the pit area.
Getting into the wall and nearly getting over in his heat, Tiner would lose track position at the end of his heat race, as a seventh place finish would send him into the Last Chance Showdown.
Lining up eight in the ‘B’ Main, Tiner would come into contact with a fellow competitor on a lap five restart, and his machine would slide through the infield before getting upside down violently.
Though he would escape uninjured, Tiner’s night would come to an early end.
“I just want to thank everyone who made this entire weekend possible,” Tiner said. “It felt good to get back in a car after a few weeks off, but I was a little disappointed with how Friday went, and really bummed with our wreck on Saturday.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Elma Lanes, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-19, Wins-2, Top 5’s-11, Top 10’s-14
ON TAP: Tiner will be back in action on August 8th at the Placerville Speedway for the 10th Annual Mark Forni Classic.
