PETERSEN MEDIA: Friday night in Tulare, CA Steven Tiner would reunite with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour for the opening night of the Peter Murphy Classic and he would come away with a fourth place finish.

“We had a great starting position but we lost a couple of spots as the rubber started to go down early in the race,” Steven Tiner said. “It is nice to get a Top-Five out of the deal, and I have to thank everyone for their help and support.”

The Visalia, CA resident kicked his Friday evening off by timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Fisher Racing Engines backed No. 94 machine in second quickest in his time trial group which would put him in the second row of his heat race.

On the slick and racy Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Tiner would battle with Matt Peterson as he would finish fourth and move into the feature event as well as the all important 10-car Dash. Battling with Giovanni Scelzi for the win and the right to start on the pole, Tiner would settle for second.

Lining up on the front row of the 30-lap feature event, the track would begin taking rubber as soon as the race came to life. Patchy in places, Tiner would search around for it as he chased after Scelzi but would soon find himself back in third, as Kyle Hirst was able to make traction and get around him.

Admittedly going a littler conservative on his setup for the feature, Tiner would then see Shane Golobic get by him as the rubber continued to go down. A couple of restarts would see Tiner look for away around Golobic to get back up on the podium but his effort would come up short.

Despite a pair of late stoppages due to flat tires, Tiner was still unable to do anything with the lead trio as he took the checkered flag in the fourth position.

“We were really good all night long, but I just didn’t want to go too far being on the front row and knowing rubber was coming,” Tiner said. “It was a good night, but unfortunately with the way the season has gone we will have to park the Steven Tiner Racing No. 94 for a couple of weeks as we try to get some support to get us back to the track. I am hoping we can find an opportunity or sponsor to help us out. With that being said, I really do have to thank all of the people that continue help us in a variety of ways.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Fisher Racing Engines, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-1, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-4

ON TAP: Tiner is unsure when his next race will be as he will park the STR No. 94 for a few weeks.
