Tiner Tops Civil War Stop at Placerville Speedway; Locks Into Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Steven Tiner had his STR No. 94 machine dialed in for the slick Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, as the Visalia, CA driver picked up his first Civil War Series win since the 2012 season, and also locked into Johnny Key Classic set for the Ocean Speedway later this summer.

“We had a couple of things really go our way to even put us in this position,” Steven Tiner said. “We had a couple guys scratch in heat races, and then we had a great dash draw and we were able to capitalize.”

Timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Deli Delicious backed No. 94 machine in 18th quickest in time trials, Tiner would have some luck on his side as he ended up on the pole of his heat race.

Racing his way to the win, Tiner would move into the Dash, where the two pill would put him on the front row of the six-race affair. Running second to Chase Majdic, Tiner would line up on the front row of the 30-lap feature event on an extremely slick Placerville Speedway surface.

Getting the jump, Tiner had an early lead during the race’s first two circuits before the yellow flag slowed his progress. Back underway, Tiner again jumped into the lead and began opening his lead up as he worked the bottom groove in turns one and two, and rode the thick cushion that had built up in turns three and four.

With the caution again waiving on the 11th lap just as he had worked his way into lapped traffic, Tiner would again have another good restart, as he was able to again leave the field in his wake.

Looking to be well on his way to his third win of the season, the yellow flag would fly on the 27th lap, and restack the field for a three lap shootout to the finish line. Un phased by the stoppage, Tiner would fend off Greg DeCaires and pick up his third win of the 2016 season.

“Friday night we ran in Hanford, CA and I have to thank my Uncle a ton for his help, because we didn’t get home and in bed until like 430am,” Tiner added. “I grew up with my family at Placerville so it is always special to get a win there.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-11, Wins-3, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-8

ON TAP: At this time, Tiner is unsure where his next race will be.
