TK Tops Civil War Series pres. by Flowmaster Action at Gold Cup

IMG_3170

(PETERSEN MEDIA- Chico, CA, )- Wednesday night in Chico, CA, Tim Kaeding bested a stout field of 46 Civil War Series pres. by Flowmaster entries to score gold during the opening night of the 2018 Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.

Lining up on the outside of the front row for the feature event alongside Kalib Henry, Kaeding would win the drag race into turn one and quickly open up a comfortable lead over Tanner Thorson and Mason Moore who settled into second and third before the caution flag flew on the third lap.

Rubber was down on the surface from the early laps on this night, and when the action picked back up, Kaeding continued to look extremely stout out front as Thorson waited in the wings hoping the pounce in traffic as Moore, Justin Sanders and Sean Becker rounded out the Top-Five.

As the rubber continued to go down and the bottom turned into the preferred line, Kaeding would approach the back of the field just before the halfway point and Thorson would close in on his back bumper and make things interesting up front until the caution flew on the 14th lap.

Nailing his restart, the San Jose, CA pilot continued to lead the way as the only change inside the Top-Five would be a nice move into fourth by Sean Becker who was able to sneak by Justin Sanders.

As much of the field ran in single file formation, the most dramatic part of the show came on lap 27 when Dustin Freitas lost the handle in front of Kaeding and Thorson. Taking evasive action, both drivers were able to narrowly avoid contact and continued to lead the way. Though he would spin, Freitas did a great job on this night as he raced his way to the feature event after lining up in the C Main.

The final three-laps would see Kaeding open up his lead and race his way back into victory lane at Silver Dollar Speedway, a track that he has had so much success at in his career as Thorson finished second and he would be flanked by Mason Moore, Justin Sanders, Andy Forsberg, Sean Becker, Chase Johnson, Bud Kaeding, Geoff Ensign, and Shawn Conde rounding out the Top-10.

46 drivers checked in for the opening night of the 65th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, and Andy Forsberg would kick things off by earning Petersen Media Fast Time honors.

Heat race wins went to Mason Moore, Tim Keading, Chase Johnson, and Tanner Thorson.

The C Main would go to Dustin Freitas as he and Korey Lovell would both move into the ‘B’ Main. Geoff Ensign would the ‘B’ over Colby Copeland, Cody Hodgson, Chase Majdic, Jace Vander Weerd, and C Main winner, Dustin Freitas, all who would transfer into the feature event.

Kalib Henry was victorious in the Flowmaster Dash and earned the pole for the 30-lap feature event.
