PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking a couple weekends off with Placerville Speedway dark, Tony Gomes and C&M Motorsports were back in action on Saturday night and the Modesto, CA driver scored a season best fourth place finish with the team.
“It was a really good night for our team, and it felt great to be back with C&M Motorsports, but I am a little disappointed I couldn’t get the job done from our front row starting position,” Tony Gomes said.
With 24 cars in attendance for the track’s first weekly points paying event of the month, Gomes timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7C mount in third quickest in time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Modesto, CA driver took advantage of a new rule in place in 2024 as he was able to power to the win which automatically put him on the pole of the feature event in doing so.
Following a track re-work just prior to rolling out for the feature event, Gomes didn’t get the jump he hoped for when the Ron Stahl green flag was displayed to the field as he slipped back to third.
On a very racy surface, Gomes settled in and was able to race into second as he began to chase after race leader, Michael Ing, who was solidly out front but approaching the rear of the field.
Getting to Ing’s rear bumper, slower cars raced side by side in front of himself and Ing and it allowed Andy Forsberg to get by them both as it dropped Gomes back to third as they ran in heavy traffic.
Doing what he could to search for away around Ing to get into second, Gomes utltimatley lost another position to Michael Faccinto in his efforts as he capped his night off with a fourth-place finish.
“We certainly had a better car than how we ended up, and that’s on me,” Gomes added. “I am glad we are now getting into a busy part of the season so I wont have to think about this one too long and have a shot at redemption this weekend. Big thanks to Mandi and Cody for continuing to support my racing efforts with their great equipment, and also a big thanks to Cody, Bobby, and John for working so hard to put a fast car on the track.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
