PETERSEN MEDIA- Having a part failure cut his night short during last Saturday night’s regular season finale at Placerville Speedway, Tony Gomes and the C&M Motorsports have already turned their attention to this weekend’s Nor*Cal Posse Shootout that takes place at the speedway Saturday and Sunday.
“We had a great year at Placerville, and it would be great to run well at this weekend’s event with no points or anything to worry about,” Tony Gomes said. “We have won some races, so it will be nice to simply go in this weekend focused on winning two big money shows.”
This past weekend at Placerville Speedway, Gomes and company checked it for one final points showing as Gomes timed the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c in fifth fastest in his qualifying group as the field was split into two groups with 40 cars singed in.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Gomes got a good jump and rocketed into the lead only to see his efforts negated by a caution flag as another start was needed.
Ending up with a third place finish in heat race action, Gomes was locked into the 25-lap feature event as he took the green flag from the 12th starting position. On a very slick racing surface, Gomes admitted that the car felt good underneath him but it was tricky to get rolling through the field.
Biding his time in 12th, Gomes was relentless as he searched high and low around the speedway hoping to find a line that allowed him to mount a charge as he had done some many times over the course of the season.
Making a couple of moves on the 15th lap, Gomes worked his way into the Top-10 as he started to come to life as the fuel load continued to burn off.
Just as soon as he was able to make a couple of moves, bad luck ensued as Gomes ended up breaking a torsion stop and it brought his night to an early end as contact ensured as he got caught in a bad spot on the track.
“We have a great group of supporters that allow us to do this that we all appreciated, and obviously Cody and Mandi pour a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this team,” Gomes added. “Like I said, really excited for a two-day show this weekend.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
