PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the C&M Motorsports No. 7c entry on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Tony Gomes was strong again for the Lincoln, CA based team as he picked up a sixth-place finish.
“I felt like we got off to a good start with a good lap in qualifying, and we put ourselves in position to run up front,” Gomes said. “We were good in the ‘A’ but passing was tough, so we ultimately finished where we started.”
Timing the Legacy Specialties Inc./Lund Construction/Anrak Corp backed No. 7c in third fastest in qualifying time trials, Gomes would simply need to transfer out of his heat race to become eligible for the redraw.
Running fourth, Gomes would do just what he needed as he locked himself into the impending feature event and was securely in the redraw by way of his qualifying effort.
Pulling the six, Gomes would line up in the third row of the 25-lap finale. On a very slick surface, Gomes would quickly get to fifth when the race came to life but would slip back to sixth as cars negotiated the first pair of corners at the ¼ mile bullring.
Slipping back to seventh for a few laps Gomes would search high and low around the speedway but having room to execute a pass was tricky at times.
Working his way back to sixth in the closing stages of the race, Gomes would take the Ron Stahl checkered flag in sixth capping off a solid nigh with the C& Motorsports crew.
“I really want to thank Cody and Mandi for the opportunity to drive for them, again,” Gomes said. “I also want to thank Cody, Bobby, and Tom for their hard work all night. I have been having a blast racing with them and hope to do it again when our schedules align.”
