PETERSEN MEDIA- Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports have been awfully strong in 2019, and that continued over the weekend as the youngster from Hollister, CA picked up 5th and 8th place finishes at the Asparagus Cup in Stockton, CA.

“I can’t say enough of this C&M Motorsports team,” Tony Gualda said. “They put me in a great car night in and night out, and I am thankful to be in the mix on any given night. It was another good weekend for the race team.”

Friday night would get off to a slow start for Gualda in the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto Parts/PitStopUSA backed No. 7c machine. Using a late restart in his heat to sneak into the final transfer position, Gualda would roll off the starting grid from the 17th starting position.

On a surface that proved to be tricky during much of the night, Gualda would mash the throttle and patiently work his way forward as the surface stayed quick all night.

Taking advantage of some timely restarts, Gualda would do a great job of salvaging the night, as he accepted Ed Entz’s checkered flag in the eighth position.

Looking to better himself on Saturday night, Gualda came out swinging, as he timed in third fastest in his qualifying group to kick things off.

Getting a good start, Gualda would use the bottom of turns one and two to forge his way into the lead and leave the field in his wake. Grabbing the win, Gualda advanced into the High Sierra Industries Dash where his third place finish put him in the second row of the 30-lap Asparagus Cup feature event.

With the top being the dominant line on this night, Gualda would settle into fourth as he blazed around the cushion, until a restart would put him in the bottom lane. Slipping back as far as eight, Gualda would keep his composure as he sliced and diced his way forward as he was able to get by the likes of Ryan Bernal and Rico Abreu to net a fifth place finish when the 30-lapper came to a close.

“I am feeling really confident in our program right now, and I have the confidence of knowing that I can bounce back even if we lose a few spots and that is a big testament to Cody and MF,’ Gualda added. “Again, it means a lot to me that Cody and Mandi continue to support my racing efforts and keep giving great opportunities to succeed.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: Gualda will be busy this weekend as he is set to pilot a Doug Rutz entry in Chico, CA on Friday night before climbing back in the C&M Motorsports entry on Saturday in Placerville, CA.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-5, Wins-1, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5.
