PETERSEN MEDIA- Since returning to California following his great run at the Dirt Cup, Willie Croft has experienced some tough luck, but the Sacramento, CA driver hasn’t let it get him down, as he looks to fight through this stretch.
“It has definitely been rough the last couple of weeks, but no one has given up yet, and we continue to have a very fast racecar.”
Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway with the King of the West Series, the driver known as ‘Double Down’ opened his night up by laying down the fifth fastest lap of the night during time trials.
Lining up third in his heat race aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ/Christian Stover Foundation/ButlerBuilt No. 29 entry, Croft was trapped on the greasy bottom of the speedway when the race went green, but was able to get into the fourth and final transfer spot for the feature event, and also earn a berth in the dash.
Finishing fifth aboard his Brown and Miller/FK Rod Ends/Hinchman Indy entry, Croft would grid the field in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.
When the race got underway, Croft bicycled hard in turns three and four and lost a few positions as Shane Golobic and Sean Becker got past him.
Keeping close tabs on the duo in front of him, Croft’s night came to an early end as he got upside down aboard his Schoenfeld/K&N/Smith Precision Products No. 29 entry, and ended his night on the 20th lap.
“We will regroup and look forward to getting down to Tulare on Saturday night, a track that we have ran very well at so far this year,” he added.
