PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in a pair of 410ci events in Chico, CA over the weekend, Dominic Scelzi would rally from a tough start on Friday night to finish ninth in the feature, before mechanical issues forced him out of the 29th Annual Dave Bradway Jr Memorial feature event with just 10-to-go on Saturday night.
“I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for continuing to let me drive for them and battle with the King of the West Series,” Dominic Scelzi said. “Friday night we had a good car, I just made a couple of early mistakes, and Saturday we just had some bad luck under a red while running decent.”
Opening the weekend up on Friday night, Scelzi would time the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. No. 83Jr machine in sixth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Going from third to second in heat race action, the Fresno, CA pilot would move into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the ninth starting position.
Getting into seventh in the first couple of laps, Scelzi would get out of shape and bring the Roth Motorsports machine to a stop in turns three and four. Going to the back, Scelzi would find himself involved in another incident a few laps later and would again make his way to the back of the pack.
Able to finally get rolling, the Roth Motorsports machine would come to life as he worked his way forward. Getting into the Top-10 late, Scelzi would cap his night with an eighth place finish.
Saturday night marked the second King of the West event of the season, and the early point leader would open his night up by timing in fourth quickest in time trials.
Starting and finishing fourth in his heat race, Scelzi would miss out on the Dash and find himself seventh on the starting grid of the 40-lap Bradway Memorial feature event.
As the race came to life, Scelzi would find himself battling for fifth and sixth for much of the race as he worked around the slick Silver Dollar Speedway surface, in search of his first Bradway win.
Continuing to run in the Top-Five, the red flag was needed with 10-to-go. After crews were cleared and the open red flag was closed, trouble struck the 83 machine. Unable to fire after more work from the Roth Motorsports crew, Scelzi’s night would unfortunately come to a close.
“I have to thank all the guys that work on this thing,” Dominic Scelzi said. “We were really good both nights, I just got in the way of a good car on Friday. Saturday we were in the Top-Five, and I just hate that some bad luck ended our night early. Again, really thankful to be in this position and I have to thank everyone at Roth Motorsports.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.
