Tough Weekend In CA For Willie Croft

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making the decision to forgo his trip to the Dirt Cup in Washington, Willie Croft would return to action with the King of the West Series over the weekend, and would dominate much of the race on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway until some late race misfortune, and would battle to an 11th place finish at the Calistoga Speedway.

“We had a really good car on Friday night and I made a mistake that cost us a win, and on Saturday night time trials really set us back, but the guys worked hard and we made the best of it,” Willie Croft said.

Taking part in the Pombo Sargent Classic on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Willie Croft would time his Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 machine in 10th fastest.

Taking advantage of the front row starting position in his heat race, Croft would race his way to the win and make himself eligible for the all-important dash.

Picking up the win during the dash, Croft would grid the field form the pole position for the 30-lap A Main event. On a racy Ocean Speedway, Croft was hard on the throttle and quickly jumped out to the early lead over Kyle Hirst and Jonathan Allard.

With the action heating up behind him, Croft would continue to lead the way as he set a strong pace out front. On the 23rd lap, trouble would strike Croft as he would make contact with an infield barrier, and cause damage to his front end. The damage would be significant enough to end Croft’s night.

Traveling to the Calistoga Speedway on Saturday night, Croft would get off to a less than desired start during time trials as he timed the FK Rod Ends/Hinchman Indy/Schoenfeld No. 29 in 15th fastest in time trials.

Finishing seventh in his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver would line up in the 15th starting position for the 25-lap A Main event. Taking a liking to the stop side of the speedway, Croft would have his elbows up as he got past some serious star power during the feature.

Working up as high as the eighth spot, Croft would see his engine get hot and start to lose water. As this happened he would be forced to back off at times and would close his weekend out with an 11th place finish.

“It was a tough weekend for our team, but those are bound to happen,” Croft said. “We had some great speed though, and hopefully this weekend we can have another good run or two.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-12, Wins-4, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-8.
