PETERSEN MEDIA- Teaming up with Rod Tiner to take part in the 2017 Trophy Cup in Tulare, CA, Jonathan Allard would not have the week of racing that he envisioned.
“It was a tough week of racing when it was all said and done,” Jonathan Allard said. “We got collected in someone else’s mess on Thursday night, ran pretty well on Friday, and Saturday night we got collected again at the start of the race so it was disappointing. I am extremely thankful that Rod Tiner gave me the opportunity though, and even with a bad start we were in good shape heading into the ‘A’.”
Thursday night during the 24th Annual Trophy Cup opener, Allard would get his night started by timing the RTR No. 83SA entry in second quickest in qualifying time trials.
Working his way forward in his heat race, Allard would work into the third spot but the lead duo would get together and Allard would get in on the action and get upside down ultimately ending his Thursday night.
Bouncing back for Friday night’s qualifying night, Allard would continue to show tremendous speed as he timed in third fastest on this night. Working his way forward in heat race action, the Chico, CA native would finish in the fourth position and move into the feature event as he sat 2nd in Friday night Trophy Cup points.
Starting 11th based on the 12 car inversion, Allard was able to work his way forward on an extremely rough and heavy racing surface. Being careful to become a victim in some of the rough spots, JA worked his way up to finish eighth on this night.
Taking his Friday night point total into Saturday’s finale, Allard at the RTR team sat 12th in event points heading into heat races. Finishing fifth in his heat race, Allard would move on to the feature event as he sat 13th in points. With 20 cars inverted to make up the ‘A’ Main line up, Allard would grid the field from the eighth starting position.
When the green lights flashed on, trouble broke out in turn one. Contact ensued and Allard would flip wildly in turn two. Able to climb out of the wreckage under his own power, Allard’s 2017 Trophy Cup would end just like that.
“I am a little banged up, so I will have to take a few weeks off and get reevaluated before I get back to racing,” Allard added. “Again, I really want to thank Rod Tiner and his team for their efforts all weekend long, and for a really amazing opportunity.”
