PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the World Series Sprint Cars opener at the Valvoline Raceway in Sydney, AU on Saturday, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing had a turbulent opening night to their 18-race campaign ‘Down Under’.
“It was an eventful night, that is for sure,” Ian Madsen said. “My guys worked hard all night long, and I thank them for that and we are all hoping that is out of the way and now we can focus on running well.”
Timing his KCP Racing/Nehring Construction/Logan Contractors Supply Inc. No. 18 machine in eighth fastest in his qualifying flight, Madsen would have issues in his first heat as a fuel leak would develop, but he would hang on to finish in the fourth spot.
Coming back out for his second heat, Madsen’s rough night would continue, as he would have an engine expire under the hood of his entry as he took the checkered flag. Fortunately for Madsen and his team, a third place finish would be good enough to get him into the feature event.
With his team working feverishly to get a new engine installed into the No. 18 machine, Madsen would make the call for the A main, though he would grid the field from the eighth row.
On a racy Sydney Speedway, Madsen could not seem to get moving forward as he searched around the multi-groove track. Going wheel-to-wheel with some of the best AU has to offer, Madsen would close his night out with a 16th place finish.
“It was definitely not the night we had in mind, but opening nights are usually eventful,” Madsen added. “I really want to thank everyone who made this trip possible, and it is not an easy thing to do. I also want to thank Watson’s for coming on board, and am looking forward to driving their car this coming weekend in Western Australia.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Royal Flooring, Aspen Aire Inc. Heating and Cooling, Bobcat, The Stone Shop, Gator Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Van Gorp Construction, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc., Speck USA, Kustom Concrete Pumping, Lucas Oil, Revolution Race Gear, Monarchs Restaurant and Lounge, and Climate Master- Geothermal Heating and Cooling, for their support this season.
