Turbulent Trip to Chico, CA for Andy Forsberg

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in Silver Dollar Speedway’s season opening Mini Gold Cup over the weekend, Andy Forsberg had a turbulent weekend. Having some struggles on Friday night, Forsberg showcased some serious speed on Saturday until a lap one miscue took him off of the front row of the 40-lap feature event.

“Friday night it was old school Chico. It was heavy, it was rough, and it was a cool track in my opinion, and I really thought we made good changes to be racy in the feature but we weren’t going anywhere so I pulled it back to the trailer at the halfway point,” Andy Forsberg said.

Kicking the Silver Dollar Speedway season off on Friday night at the Mini Gold Cup opener, Forsberg timed the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in fourth fastest in his qualifying group, which was also fourth fastest overall.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver battled for position in an attempt to make the redraw but his fifth-place finish put him in the ninth row of the 30-lap feature event.

With the track very gnarly heading into the ‘A’, Forsberg and company went to work to ‘free up’ his car to maneuver on the heavy and rough speedway, but the changes didn’t quite work how they had hoped.

Bouncing around for a few laps, Forsberg made a business decision at the race’s halfway point and headed back to the pit area.

Back in action on Saturday night for the NARC season opener, Forsberg got off to a great start as he earned fast time honors amongst the 32 cars that checked into the pits.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Forsberg simply needed to finish inside the Top-Five to earn a berth into the Dash. A ragged start to the heat saw Forsberg slip back to sixth, but a couple of nice moves saw him work his way back into fifth, where he finished, as he transferred into the Dash.

Having good fortune in the redraw, Forsberg found himself on the front row of the Dash alongside Justyn Cox. With Cox getting the jump, Forsberg settled in and finished second, which put him on the front row of the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win Mini Gold Cup feature event.

When the race went green, Forsberg ran hard into turn one and the tricky surface saw his right-rear tire get up over the edge of the speedway and he got out of shape and spun to a stop.

“We changed a couple things on the engine before the feature, and it didn’t quite take off how I thought it would, but then when I got to the flag stand it went full turbo mode and led to quite the escapade into turn one,” Forsberg added. “In retrospect, it turned out to be the theme of the night, I was just the first bonehead to do it.”

Restarting from the back of the pack with 40-laps still to be ran, Forsberg was able to work his way back forward in what was a wild feature event. Getting back near the top-10, a restart issue saw Forsberg again come to a stop in turns three and four, and with it being his second offense, he was done for the night.

“We were slowly working our way forward from the back, and it was just a wild feature event,” Forsberg said. “Cautions breed cautions, and we had quite a few of them. On one of the restarts things didn’t go our way and ended up causing me to spin again, and it ended our night.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
