PETERSEN MEDIA: Having a nice starting spot in the feature event, Justyn Cox seemed to be a magnet in the feature event as a good night quickly went south and Cox ended up with a 19th place finish.
“We had a pretty good night going, but we got caught up in an opening lap wreck, and then we seemed to be involved in every incident that took place the rest of the night,” Cox said. “It was frustrating, but we will put it behind us, fix our car up and get ready for Chico (CA).”
With 26 cars on hand for the King of the West Series opener, Cox timed his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex No 31c backed mount in seventh fastest before picking up a third place finish during his heat race.
Getting into the Dash with the way heat races played out, the Clarksburg, CA driver would finish in the eighth spot, which would ultimately place him in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event on the high banked ¼ mile speedway.
When the race got underway, Cox was working the high side of the speedway when a car flipped in turns three and four and Cox got a piece of the action. Taking a trip to the work area to let his crew look over his car, Cox was able to restart but would be involved in a couple more incidents that left his car beaten and battered.
Cox would see his night come to an end on the 25th lap as a spinning car collected him and more contact flattened his right rear, and he retired to the pit area.
“Its never fun when you feel like you have a bull-eye on you,” Cox added. “My guys worked hard all night, and were hoping our luck turns this weekend during the Dave Bradway, Jr Memorial.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!
