PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action with the King of the West Series on Saturday night in Placerville, CA, Jason Statler had an up and down night that ultimately saw ‘The Big Guy’ finish in the 15th spot.
“We didn’t time in well, but we did a nice job of digging ourselves out of a hole, but a late restart got us, and we limped home to a 15th place finish,” Jason Statler said.
31 cars checked into the pit area for the Gold Country Shootout, Statler would time his DF Rios Motorsports/Amerikote/Riley Collins Auto Body No. 00 machine 24th fastest.
Working his way up to a fifth place finish in his heat race, Statler would miss out on the transfer to the feature event, and have to make a stop in the B Main. The start of the B Main saw the Grass Valley, CA driver get into a wreck on the race’s opening lap, but his team was able to make repairs, and he was able to restart the race.
Coming from the rear of the field, Statler would indeed earn a transfer position, and would line up for the 30-lap feature event in the 21st starting position.
On the extremely racy Placerville Speedway surface, Statler was able to slowly work his way forward, as he charged his way up toward the Top-10. Late in the race, a car would get out of shape in front of him, and contact ensued causing a bit of damage to the SCI/Kaeding Performance/Kistler Racing Engines machine, and he would limp around the speedway in the closing laps to score a 15th place finish.
“It has still been a battle for us to get this car to react to what we do to it,” Statler said. “I really have to thank my guys for all of their hard work in getting us a really good car for the feature event. We were able to move forward, but got caught up in some bad luck that took a Top-10 finish away.”
Jason Statler would like to thank DF Rios Motorsports, Amerikote, Riley Collins Auto Body, SCI, Kaeding Performance, Kistler Racing Engines, Simpson Race Products, Yak Graphics, Factory Kahne Shocks, Ultra Shield, Rod End Supply, Santomauro, Stephanie’s Custom Interior, and Nevada City Auto Service for their continued support.
ON TAP: Statler will return to action on April 17th at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-0, Top-5’s-0, Top-10’s-0
